I finally got to see my car today when I picked it up from HPC Classics. It has taken far longer to sort out than I expected, but I have to say, the car looks fantastic and I think this money was well spent. Certainly the new owner will benefit if I sell the car.
Chris kindly put the car up on a lift so that I could take a video of the underneath which proved to be in excellent condition. I'm now up to date with the maintenance and there is nothing else left to do at this stage. The car sailed through an MOT which I had done just to make sure that all is well.
From the garage I took the car straight up to Crowlink Lane in Friston to take some nice photos. The weather was perfect and the surroundings lend themselves to good photography so I was pleased with what I got and have included one here...
It was lovely driving this car... it is very different from the S1 and each have their own attractions. Certainly this car is very comfortable, more of a tourer and a lot easier to drive and the storage space behind the seats is very useful.
I was very please how well the car is going, it looks great, feels great and in some ways I prefere it to the Series 1. But I can't drive two cars at once and this lovely machine is hardly being used so I guess I should let someone else enjoy it.
End Mileage 84,980 (7 miles)
Note: The car was with HPC Classics in Eastbourne from 03/06/22 to 29/08/22 to have some bodywork tidied up and a full check up ready for sale. Chris Phipps Lowe came and picked it up and was very complimentary about the car. He felt that it was in lovely condition but that it would benefit from having a few blemishes sorted out in order to pre-empt any issues that a buyer may have. I told him to MOT the car just to make sure everything was mechanically sound and to give the car a good looking over. Mind you it did cost me another £3,500+ to do the work so I might have gone over the top!
The car covered 67 unrecorded miles whilst away. Invoice for work to doors...See Invoice 10/08/22 HPC Classics Invoice See Invoice 31/08/22
A lot has happened since I last took this car out for a spin. In particular we have, and still are, going though a very worrying time with the real threat of a war with Russia over their invasion of the Ukraine. History will record this event in detail, but as for the impact that it is having on the general public right now, one of the issues is a rapid rise in the cost of fuel, both gas and oil. Russia supplies lots of gas to Europe and with the most servere sanctions ever imposed on a country, including significantly reducing the gas bought from Russia, we are faced with rapidly increasing prices. When I started driving in 1973 we had a fuel crises at which point petrol jumped from 35 pence per gallon (7.7p per litre) to 50p. Now it is £1.69 per litre and rising!
The cost of energy is nothing compared to the cost that the world could face if this thing escalates. But for now we in the UK are safe so life goes on much the same, and fortunately, on occasions, the sun comes out! Today was one of those days so I just had to visit the car and give it a run. I did the Beachy Head loop and then bought it back to Chatsworth Gardens where I gave it a good clean before taking it back to the garage.
This new garage of mine is very dry and clean and is a perfect place to store the E-type and best of all it's only a 5 minute walk from where I live. Unfortunately I seem to have forgotten to record the last time I filled up so don't how many miles it has traveled since the last fill up, but I haven't used the car much in the last year so it would have been a quite some time ago!
The car drove very well and didn't miss a beat. I thought that the fuel may be a little stale and could affect the performance but I certainly didn't notice anything. Never-the-less I thought it best to fill the tank to avoid any problems. FUEL: Trinity Place Service Station 84,906 – 59.55 lts £101.18 (13.1 gallons)
